The Amish Wedding

Last week when Henry and I were in The Ohio Amish valley we found out that our good friends Dr. Miller's daughter Heidi just got married and we did not hear anything about it so I wanted to find out a little more about the Amish Wedding and it is very interesting. I picked-up a new magazine called Amish Life at one of our favorite coffee stops (& SWEETS OF COURSE)!!! Here is an exert from one of the articles from the new 2012 Guide.

AMISH WEDDINGS
Amish weddings are simple, joyous events that involve the entire Amish Community. Amish weddings are traditionally held on Tuesday and Thursdays in late fall, after the final autumn harvest. A couples' engagement is usually secret until just a few before the wedding when their intentions are "published" in church. The wedding usually take place at the home of the brides's parents with a lengthy ceremony, followed by a huge feast for the invited guests. The bride typically makes a new dress for the wedding, which will then serve as her "good" dress for formal occasions after the wedding. Blue is typical wedding dress color. Unlike most of today's elaborate weddings however, Amish weddings involve no makeup, ring, flowers, caterers or photography. Newlyweds typical spend the wedding night in the brides mother's home so they can get up early the next day to clean out the home.
