Well…….let me give you an update on my first day on my first trip to Ohio Amish Furniture Country. The area that we buy in is in the Holms Township, in thishilly and beautiful township of small towns and farms of 40,000 people 19,000 are Amish, pretty much every other farm and the second largest tourist area. But which ones were the Amish?
I was chuckling to myself when I realized that easy way to tell who Amish are and who is not. The Amish still have their clothes on the clothes line even this time of year. The other give away the farms and homes have no outside lights literally, and you can see the lights flicker in the house from the oil lamps. Another scary thing of this whole scenario is the carriages at night are extremely hard to see with candle headlights, making it even harder to spot as you cruise over the hills.
The atmosphere the peace and quiet has all been nice. My boss is a great person, one of the nicest men I have ever met. He is a hard worker and he is 67 years old. He told me not to worry he would soon have me in great shape. Thanks Henry, but unfortunatly he really means it!
So far I have met some met some really great people and enjoyed them all. My favorite was the 17 old year girl who father builds our book cases right on their farm. She was so cute in her Amish outfit & she did fantastic job on loading. Unfortunately made me look & feel so uncoordinated and weak as we carried glass door solid wood lawyer’s bookcases on to the truck. She even felt bad & apologized and said she has done this all her life, and not to worry about it. Remember don’t forget that she is doing this in her three quarter length dress and bonnet. Thank goodness she said she would go backwards and carry the heavy end???
More to come as I try to drag myself out of bed in the morning!!!
